Sagebrush Highlands
Nestled in a valley at the foot of the Owl Creek Mountains, This ranching and oil community is famous for its Mineral Hot Springs and Blue Ribbon Trout fishing on the Big Horn River. My mini ranch is just 7 miles from town.

How It All Started How It All Started

I got interested in small cows because I rope at the brandings around Wyoming and I never have time to go practice anywhere. So I saw an ad in the Casper Star Tribune and bought two steers and a heifer thinking they were mini's. They turned out to be mid-mini's but I loved them anyway. I started practicing heeling 'Casper' (white like the ghost) and after he got use to it he seems to enjoy it. I only heel him at a walk or a trot but when I catch him he stops and will even let me lift up his leg to take off the rope if he can't walk out of it. When I miss 'Casper' he just stands there. He knows he doesn't have to move until the rope starts swinging again. 'Casper' has become a great pet.  He got loose one time when I first got him and he had never had a halter on. I hauled my trailer up to where he was about two properties away. He had walked down the canal. I walked up to him with some cow goodies and put the halter on him then enticed him to be led right into the trailer. 'Casper' has been great fun and a good worker.

The other steer (he already had a name but it shall not be mentioned at this time) was fed up to be butchered and I sold him in halves.

I sell the meat at the current prices going towards the high end as their beef is all natural. The people who buy it then pay for their processing. I keep the hides for tanning to sell later.

Once I got these guys I got hooked and got on the internet to locate some real mini's. I noticed that there weren't very many really small minis so that is my goal to breed and sell and direct my breeding program towards small purebred Scottish highlands.

I found 5 purebred heifers on a registered highland ranch here in Wyoming and then I went to Texas and got my new bull and a new heifer from Galloping Winds Ranch.
