I got interested in small cows because I rope at the brandings around Wyoming and I never have time to go practice anywhere. So I saw an ad in the Casper Star Tribune and bought two steers and a heifer thinking they were mini's. They turned out to be mid-mini's but I loved them anyway. I started practicing heeling 'Casper' (white like the ghost) and after he got use to it he seems to enjoy it. I only heel him at a walk or a trot but when I catch him he stops and will even let me lift up his leg to take off the rope if he can't walk out of it. When I miss Casper he just stands there. He knows he doesn't have to move until the rope starts swinging again. Casper has become a great pet. He got loose one time when I first got him and he had never had a halter on. I hauled my trailer up to where he was about two properties away. He had walked down the canal. I walked up to him with some cow goodies and put the halter on him then enticed him to be led right into the trailer. Casper has been great fun and a good worker.
